Pressure Care Cushions

Envelo Pressure Care Cushions

The Seating Matters Envelo range of pressure care cushions has been clinically designed to offer additional support and comfort alongside the Seating Matters therapeutic seating range. These cushions – the Envelo, Envelo Plus, and Envelo Gel – were developed following extensive pressure mapping, comfort scoring and trials, to help meet the needs of individuals with low mobility, and those requiring postural support.

Envelo pressure care cushion

Envelo

The Envelo pressure care cushion provides excellent pressure redistribution and comes as standard on all Seating Matters chairs. The cushion is composed of two layers. The top layer is a high performance memory foam, providing comfort and allowing for immersion and envelopment, while the high density base layer helps provide stability to the pelvis.

All Envelo cushions are coated in Dartex®, a multi-stretch, breathable, waterproof material which can be wiped clean and protects against bacteria.

Who should use the Envelo pressure care cushion?

The Envelo is an excellent standard issue pressure care cushion which should meet the needs of most clients.

  • Anyone who can benefit from pressure redistribution
  • Those at higher risk of slipping out of a chair could benefit
from the ramped seat cushion adaptation
Envelo Plus pressure care cushion

Envelo Plus

Contoured and castellated for comfort, the Envelo Plus pressure care cushion provides deep envelopment and redistributes high pressure evenly.

It is composed of three layers; a top layer of high performance castellated memory foam that provides comfort and allows for immersion, a second layer of high performance memory foam that contours to the pelvic well in the base layer, providing an extra level of comfort, and a dense base layer of foam with a pelvic well, which helps provide stability to the pelvis.

Who should use the Envelo Plus pressure care cushion?

Envelo Plus is an excellent upgrade to the standard Envelo pressure cushion and is suitable for patients requiring an extra level of comfort and envelopment.

  • Patients who prefer a soft, comfortable cushion
  • Those who require greater pressure redistribution
Envelo Gel pressure care cushion

Envelo Gel

Constructed from a combination of anatomically contoured cooling gel and viscoelastic foam, the Envelo Gel is recommended for individuals who require increased pressure redistribution or sit for longer periods of time.

It is composed of four layers: a clear gel layer which allows for a higher level of immersion and envelopment for the ischial tuberosities (ITs), a green gel layer which provides a cooling effect, a middle layer that combines fast and slow recovery foam for excellent pressure redistribution, and a dense base layer that helps provide stability to the pelvis.

Who should use the Envelo Gel pressure care cushion?

The Envelo Gel is typically prescribed by clinicians whose clients require increased pressure redistribution.

  • Patients who require a firm, stable cushion
  • Those who sit out for long periods of time

FAQs: Pressure Care & Pressure Care Cushions

A pressure care cushion is a specialised type of cushion designed to reduce the risk of pressure injuries by distributing the user’s body weight more evenly.

These cushions are often used by individuals who are immobile or spend long periods sitting, such as those in wheelchairs or who are bedridden.

Pressure cushions are an important tool in preventing pressure ulcers, improving comfort, and promoting better circulation for individuals who are at risk.

Improper posture can lead to imbalanced weight distribution, which may lead to pressure injuries or other sometimes fatal complications.

Support from the correct chair and pressure care cushion can improve posture and help with pressure redistribution for pressure management.

The selection of a cushion should not be solely based on interface pressure mapping. Other factors such as comfort, appearance, look and feel of the cushion, weight limit and portability are equally important when choosing the correct cushion to meet the needs of the seated person.

Seating Matters chairs and Envelo pressure cushions are upholstered with two distinct materials, Vinyl and Dartex multi-stretch material.

Dartex is multi-stretch, breathable, waterproof material. It has the ability to be wiped clean and has biostatic (anti-mycotic) coatings to provide an impenetrable barrier to virus and bacteria.

Vinyl is resistant to urine, most household stains, mild acids/alkalis, drinks and beverages as they are not absorbed and can be wiped off without any problem or lasting damage. Some difficult substances such as lipstick, ball point pen ink and food colourings should be cleaned off immediately to avoid permanent staining.

This really depends on the individual. While the Envelo pressure care cushion will meet the clinical needs of most patients, the Envelo Plus may be more suitable for those who require greater pressure distribution. The Envelo Gel is typically preferred for patients who sit for long periods of time.
